Summer in Alaska

Day 1. Arrival in Anchorage, AK. A short drive through the city is followed by a walking tour of the Downtown area, then a hotel check in.

2 nights in Anchorage.

Day 2. Anchorage – Whittier – Prince William Sound – Anchorage. View the beautiful sights on the way from Anchorage to Whittier. The 50 –mile drive takes you by the way of fjords and the foothills of Chugach Mountains. Take the 5 – hour cruise of Prince William Sound out of Whittier. View the glaciers, abundant marine life. Upon returning to Anchorage, you may want to dine* at the Sourdough Mining Company. 

Day 3. Anchorage - Wrangler-St. Elias National Park - Glennallen. Today you are to take the scenic Glenn Highway to Glenallen, crossing Palmer and Matanuska Valleys. Among other photo stops, that we recommend in TripBuilder, pause at Matanuska Glacier viewpoint. Night in Glennallen.

Day 4. Glenallen - Fairbanks. Take Richardson Hwy North, and enjoy wonderful views of the valleys, lakes and tundra in the Alaska Range. View Trans Alaska Pipeline. Stop in North Pole. Evening arrival in Fairbanks – the second largest city in Alaska. 2 nights in Fairbanks.

Day 5. Fairbanks. Take a 3.5 hour cruise* on Chena and Tanana rivers, on board of paddle wheeler Discovery.  Visit Museum* of Alaska University. Alaska Range Overlook.

Day 6. Fairbanks – Denali NP. This morning take a narrow gauge train to Dredge 8 Gold Mine. Arrive Denali National Park. In the evening you may want to treat yourself to a dinner* in Denali Dinner Theater. 2 nights in Denali. 

Day 7. Denali National Park. All day today we tour this giant National Park. Experience a true wilderness, view Mt. McKinley – the tallest peak in North America, abundant wildlife, including grizzly bears.

Day 8. Denali - Anchorage. Leave your hotel in the morning, heading South. There are 2 highlights in your today’s program: a visit to the town of Talkeetna and a photo stop and a dog sled ride (seasonal, sleds on the wheels) at Iditarod Headquarters in Wasilla. Your tour ends in Anchorage.  A farewell driving tour will cover places you may not have seen yet; do the last minute souvenir shopping in the Downtown area and head to the airport for your flight home.
